The Light Banbury

Live Olive Trees and artificial trough planting Greenhouse Terrace The Light HEADER

The Light is a new waterfront development in Banbury with a seven-screen cinema, bowling alley, retro arcade, mini-golf, bars and restaurants. Bright Green were invited to design and install a mixture of live and artificial plantscapes to transform the communal areas in the building into inviting green spaces.

At the front of the building troughs and floor standing planters were filled with live evergreen and seasonal planting to give guests a verdant welcome. In the main entrance of the complex the Bright Green team created bespoke drop in artificial displays to fit exactly into the furniture and a 2.4 metre statement artificial ficus tree. With floorspace at a premium the gantry above the bar was filled with eclectic pots with spilling artificial foliage to soften the hard lines of the space. The high-level planting continued with trailing artificial staghorn and mini willow creating a curtain of colour and texture.

Traveling upstairs a lush display of artificial grasses was positioned at the top of the escalator to ensure the biophilic feel flowed with visitors as they moved throughout the building. In the private dining area tropical artificial floor standing displays in bright ceramic pots complement the strong colour themes in the room whilst introducing exotic architectural foliage.

For the modern rooftop restaurant with its own outdoor terrace overlooking the scenic Oxford canal a Mediterranean theme, with mixture of live and artificial planting creates a relaxed atmosphere with an informal feel. Live olive trees on the terrace transport diners to a warmer climate whilst the attractive artificial trough planting sections up the large space into seating areas, giving privacy and seclusion to guests. Lush artificial green walls dress the rooftop bar with its retractable roof transforming the space effortlessly from inside to out. A 2.4metre artificial olive tree continues to bring nature into the restaurant with an extensive 3 metre canopy spreading across the ceiling to give diners the ambience of dining beneath its foliage.

Additional green walls were built by the Bright Green team to cover the glass balustrades around the terrace framing the vista and bringing the space to life. Packed with dense foliage these incredibly realistic walls shelter guests from the urban surroundings and energise the space. Made with UV stable foliage these striking bespoke walls will not fade in the sun and will remain vibrant for many years to come.

Bright Green were delighted to enhance Banbury’s newest leisure destination with eye-catching bespoke planting schemes. This vibrant development in the heart of our own historic market town has rejuvenated the canal side and marks a major investment in our local area.
