Unite Students Accommodation
Having worked with us previously Manalo & White asked us to create vibrant planting landscapes for Unite Students’ striking new purpose-built student accommodation in the heart of London. Hayloft Point a new 24 and 16 storey building consists of 913 units of student accommodation, including spacious common and study areas which Bright Green were drafted in to enhance with planting.
The brief was to focus on live planting where it would thrive and to produce eye catching tropical displays that were big and bold to compliment the interior design. With careful consideration to lighting levels in each communal space a mixture of live and artificial planting displays were carefully created to deliver an exotic vibe to the project.
In the bright reception area live colourful crotons, tall kentia palms, dramatic monstera and low-level ferns give texture and structure to the space along with a vibrant welcome to the building. For the darker study and kitchen areas artificial bird of paradise with its long, elegant stems injects a real burst of tropical colour. The lush artificial zamioculcas zamiifolia and monstera displays look just as realistic as their live counterparts which would struggle to survive in these low light areas.
An eclectic selection of terracotta and ceramic pots were chosen to compliment the style of the urban office area and planted with a mixture of upright and trailing live succulents and cacti to produce a unique live display. To dress the roof garden, with its limited access for live plant care, dramatic cube planters were filled with UV stable artificial burgundy grasses, sansevieria and trailing scindapsus to continue the tropical theme whilst ensuring the planting would not be damaged by the sun and look vibrant for years to come.
The Bright Green team had the experience and expertise to weave artificial and live planting seamlessly into Hayloft Point to give the health benefits of live planting in an urban environment and the visual impact of artificial in areas where live plants just wouldn’t survive. It has been an absolute pleasure to collaborate with Manalo & White and construction experts RG Group on this flagship project and to be invited to work on four additional Unite Student properties, bringing the biophilic beauty of planting to even more students across the UK.
